I'm Sorry
Ok... so I'm really sorry I haven't posted in a while... but I wanted to let those who care, know what's going on with me.
debriefing...
So I had a really great trip back to my old stomping grounds where I served God for almost four years. It was way too short of a time though. I was able to get a lot things done to help the team I was a part of, things that I had no idea that I'd be doing while I was there. Please pray for what God is doing there to bring Yi people to Himself and make them worshipers of Him and how He is gathering them together and making uniquely Yi churches that glorify Him. If you'd like to hear more specific stories about my trip, I'd love to share... I'm just limited as to what I can put here in this blog. So find me on campus, email or call and I can give you a better picture of what God did in and through me on this trip.
I have also accepted a call to lead a group of young men from the fraternity I was in while in university (Brothers Under Christ BYX). We will be going to work with another alumni from the Texas A&M chapter, that just happens to be a really good friend of mine. Please pray for this trip as we are just in the initial stages of organizing it and will begin recruiting guys during the fall semester. Also, if you feel called to help support this endeavor, either though prayer or finances, please contact me and I can let you know more about it.
on the job front...
I am still looking at driving a school bus for Crowley ISD. I passed my written exams at the DMV last week and now have a commercial Driver's license (CDL) learning permit. Hopefully, I'll be able to practice driving school busses soon and be able to take the driving part of the exam before the end of the month. I've also decided to stay on the GAP, working one Saturday every other week or so. This way, I'll still have employment during the Christmas break... and I get to keep my discount there.
tales from the cemetery... oh I meant to say seminary...
School started up again last week. I'm taking 15 hours, and most of that is missions courses or related to that. I'm taking Animistic Folk Religions, Models for Church Planting, Missions Mobilization, Missions Education and the Church, and Worship. Only the last course is not about mission, but if you've ever read John Piper's book, Let the Nations be Glad! you know that worship is at the very heart of why we as Christians are called to participate in the Great Commission and why we are to take the gospel to every nation, tribe and people group.
I'm excited about most of my classes and what I get to study in them (especially the Worship class). The course work will be quite a load (even more so once I start driving the school bus regularly). I already have a book report due next week on John Piper's desiring God (approx. 300 pages, not counting the appendixes). And then another book report due in mid-September on a church planting book. Pray for my enthusiasm towards classes not to wane and that I would be a good steward of my time. Pray also, that reading assignments and papers would not keep me from digging in the Word on a daily basis and that the busyness of the semester would not keep me from spending time with the God I'm studying.
That's all for now... I'll do my best to update more frequently... I really want to use this blog as a place to share what I'm learning... whether that be from my reading of the Bible, from church, from class, or other reading... so, look for that in the upcoming weeks... and if you don't see any updates... you can do like Crider and Jerod and just tell me, "Update your blog!" -blessings everyone.
in HIS grip for HIS glory,
jh
